In a privileged location on the Sellaronda circuit, between the Campolongo and Gardena passes, Corvara is right at the centre of Alta Badia and one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in the Dolomites. At an altitude of 1,568 metres it boasts a magical landscape with views of the Marmolada peaks and the Austrian mountains.
In the warm summer months countless leisurely walks and more strenuous hikes of all kinds can be taken on the uplands of Col Alto and Pralongià, in the Puez-Odle natural parkland and on the local mountain Sassongher. The two main lifts, Boè and Col Alt are open all through the summer offering less energetic visitors the chance to scale the mountain.
There is also a 9-hole golf course and an eco-friendly lake, where you can take a refreshing dip, or for more active fun, there is the rock gym.
In wintertime the pistes of all levels of difficulty welcome adults, children, expert skiers, beginners and freestylers. Corvara is also one of the departure points for the Grande Guerra (Great War) ski tour where trenches, redoubts and other remains of the First World War can still be seen.
Corvara sits at the foot of the magnificent Sella massif, right at the heart of the famous Sellaronda tour, which can be travelled by bike in the summer and on skis in the winter. Snowshoes, cross-county-skiing, ski mountaineering and guided walks are all on offer in Corvara, as well as in the rest of Alta Badia.
Corvara became famous when, in 1947, Italy’s first chair lift, the Col Alt lift was built. This opened the door to winter tourism in Alta Badia, leading the resort to become one the best loved in the world.
The nightlife, restaurants, amusement parks and shops in the centre of the village all make for an entertaining holiday, with plenty of opportunities for fun to round off a hard day’s sport.
